It’s great to be outdoors

It’s great to be outdoors

There’s nothing quite like the “silence” of nature. If you can find the right spot, you won’t hear any cars, any trains, any planes … or any cell phones chirping at you. You will hear babbling brooks and birds chirping and squirrels chittering. You will hopefully feel a little peace.

June is Great Outdoors Month, and it’s a great time to be outdoors! We’re officially past those errant cold snaps of spring and hopefully not too far into the high heat of summer. Flowers are blooming, trees have their leaves and it’s a great time to get out there and soak it all in.

This waterfall is in a secret location somewhere in the Mohawk Valley. Do you have any special secret spots?

June 11 is National Get Outdoors Day, a nationwide event featuring a mix of practical information and fun, outdoor activities. Get Outdoors events are kid-friendly and highlight some of the fun things to do outdoors, like fishing and geocaching. Famous mascots Smokey the Bear and Woodsy Owl will also be in attendance at many of the planned events.

Reserve America, a leading destination for discovering, exploring and booking campsites, cabins, yurts and other rental options, offers up a great list of additional ways to celebrate the great outdoors.

Anywhere there are mountain hiking trails, there are likely fire towers too. Make sure you climb up to soak in the views!

We at Country Culture also post some TikToks of interesting places to explore across Upstate New York (where we’re based), but we’d love to hear from you about other great places to visit. Share your pics and videos with us on our social media – we’d love to see your great outdoors!
