How to raise baby goats

How to raise baby goats

Occasionally my seven-year-old granddaughter comes in to work with me. One day she asked if she could set up her own desk so she could do some work too. We used an empty desk and got her set up with some office supplies, printed out a sign that said “Kenza’s Desk” and put up a few decorations.

She immediately started writing an article about a lost dog. She was excited about writing and thought of all the other things she could write about.

In anticipation of getting goats this spring, an assignment was left on her desk asking her to write an article on taking care of baby goats. She started writing it, but had to leave so took it home with her to finish. She proudly handed it to me the next night.

Kenza takes a quick look over her work.

How to raise baby goats

  1. In order to take care of a baby goat, you have to get one.
  2. Supply goat needs where you keep your goat.

Things for your goat:

  • Hay and other farming things. That’s its food!
  • Give it a name.
  • Love your goat and make sure it’s safe.
  • Give your goat a safe place to live.
  1. Figure out if your goat is a boy or girl.
  2. Goat names

Boy                        Girl

Bob                        Milisidey

Steve                     Jennifer

Ferdinand              Jacklin

Orlando                 Daisy

Randy                    Barbara

Ed                          Lilly

Carlos                    Stefinie

Andy                      Beatrice

Dave                      Isabella

Billy Goat

Kenza has a love of reading and writing and a great imagination. She and her grandfather are writing a book about our dog Molly and all the adventures she has. They enjoy writing it and when we’re watching Kenza the two of them plot and plan what adventures Molly will have next.

Do you have a budding writer? Send in something they’ve written and we’ll do our best to get it in the paper. Email the story (pictures are great as well) to jkarkwren@leepub.com.
